Building Community is Central to WIN’s Philosophy
At
Women In Need, we are mindful that our work is about effecting change,
transforming lives and building community. As a part of the WIN family
you are an integral part of a community that assists thousands of homeless
children and families. Your support helps us break the cycle of homelessness,
so that future generations of children will prosper and enjoy the advantages
of a safe home, health care and self-reliance.
You can help support our efforts in providing independence to our homeless families in many ways. You can volunteer your time
and talents through a variety of opportunities that are available throughout
our organization; you can receive updates on programs and activities
by joining our online WIN Family; and last, but not least, you can
make a financial contribution to assist with the services and programs
that we provide to our homeless families.
No matter how you decide to invest in WIN’s mission—and in the future
of these homeless women and children—your involvement will serve in
making a real difference in our community.
Community
In partnership with numerous
philanthropic organizations, corporations, and community-based social service
and healthcare providers, WIN is able to offer dozens of programs and services
to meet the diverse needs of clients.
For example, a fully-equipped mobile medical unit from the New York Children’s
Health Project, a program of Montefiore Medical Center and the Children’s Health
Fund, provides health care services to children and their families at WIN’s
Junius/Liberty Complex on a weekly basis.

Josie's Story
Born to a volatile household, Josie was verbally and emotionally abused
by her drug-addicted parents. After their deaths from substance abuse,
at a very young age Josie moved to her grandmother’s. Unable to control
Josie’s anger issues, the girl ended up in a group home.
A mother at 15, Josie found herself coping with the emotional and
physical needs of a new baby, finding a home, and learning how to care
for herself and her family.
Another child followed and, because she
was in an abusive relationship with their father, she began taking
steps toward independence for her and her children.
At WIN Josie learned that you can break the cycle of homelessness.
She attributes her ability to stay focused, manage money, and know
self-worth, to the support and counseling she received from WIN.
Having graduated from WIN’s programs, Josie has her sights set on
going back to school to become a mortician. She is setting an example
of self-reliance and accomplishment for her daughter who wants to be
a doctor someday.
WIN depends on the amazing volunteers who share their time and talents
helping mothers understand the life-changing example they can set for
their children.
