WIN relies on unrestricted gifts to ensure that the homeless women
and children we serve receive the highest possible level of care. Private
gifts make all the difference in our ability to serve New York’s most
vulnerable homeless families and allow WIN to assist these at risk
women and children, even in the midst of our nation’s economic recession.
By donating to WIN you will help these homeless women become self-reliant
and be part of a partnership that endeavors to break the cycle of homelessness
one family at a time.

Diane's Story
Raised by a loving grandmother, Diane had a happy childhood but at the age of 16 she became pregnant and dropped out of school. With her dreams of a GED on hold, she raised her expanding family all the while living with controlling, abusive partners. Horrified to find out her youngest children were being abused by someone they knew, Diane and her children left immediately. Living on her own with limited resources, several small children and no high school diploma, Diane realized finding work was virtually impossible and found herself homeless.
Placed in a WIN shelter, Diane will never forget their first day there. Her children were encouraged to select as many books as they could carry from the overflowing boxes in the library and caring staff members helped them settle into their new apartment. The terrifying feeling of being in a shelter was replaced with one of tremendous gratitude and hope.
Determined to get her life back on track, Diane participates in many classes provided by WIN and her children have flourished under the nurturing care of WIN’s daycare and afterschool programs. With a peaceful look on her face, Diane says, “The kindness of the staff and the well maintained apartments make this feel more like a home than a shelter.”
Your donations provide the high level of care that vulnerable children need and
deserve.
